NEW: The essentials of Open Innovation: A human perspective

It’s no secret: innovating is difficult. Firms are looking for new ways to innovate and the open innovation phenomenon seems to be catching on. But, we know that firms do not innovate: humans do!

During the Emerging Innovation Summit, your host, RMIT University is conducting engaging experiments to understand the human-side of open innovation. Your participation at the 60 minute session during the summit will provide you with insights to:

* Improve crowdsourcing outcomes at your firm * Understand what attitudes are at play in your innovation project teams * How can behavioural experiments help you manage innovation processes at your firm

Participating in such sessions is usually an eye-opener to tendencies that can affect business performance and innovation outcomes. Your participation will involve you taking part in online psychological tasks and/or online questionnaires designed purposely for the experimental setting.

You are welcome you to register for the session by Saturday 15 September. There is no cost to attend the session. To find out more and register, please follow the link below:

What is EIS about?
Everyone is working on innovation, but how can we ensure we do it well? What can we learn from creatives, designers and technologists?
What are the best approaches to use and when? How can we sharpen our innovation mindsets and avoid just jumping on the same bandwagon as those around us? How can we identify new methods, tools and mindsets from a field that’s crowded, loud and increasingly convergent?
EIS is an interference of ideas, people, methods, mindsets, tribes and societies - we invite you to meet, mingle and explore this rich terrain with us. You’ll be surprised by what you find.

Why is EIS different?
There’s been a rapid uptake in use of methods such as Design Thinking, Human Centred Design, Agile, Lean Startup and many others. These are all great innovation tools, but have you critically evaluated where these tools are sharp, where they are blunt and more importantly, which is the best tool for your situation? What else is out there?
The truth is we often don’t know and may be too comfortable with our existing innovation efforts. Are we unintentionally converging and ‘bandwagoning’? Are we at risk of being un-innovative in our innovation?
EIS is a fresh academically-led conference designed to explore, enquire, critique, experiment and evaluate. You’ll find breadth, depth and a willingness to challenge some deeply held beliefs about innovation.
We will showcase methods and concepts against one another and provide left-field alternatives. We’ll throw problems into the mix and discover the value of different creative approaches.
There is a rich variety of toolsets and mindsets available to help us think differently and get unstuck. How can we combine them? How can one power up another? How can current creative and design developments combine with emerging technologies to shape future innovation?
We’ll also be joined by innovators from emerging economies to learn, share and debate what’s happening on the global frontiers of innovation.

Large number of oral presentations
To ensure every innovator from any location in the world, from students to established innovator leaders, has an opportunity to present their newest study at the EIS'18, the program will include a large number of oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts, distributed in parallel mini-symposia. Each 3D poster presenter will have a chance to give a one-minute flash talk to attract the summit participants to their poster.

Innovators – industries - investors interactions
EIS’18 will provide opportunities for innovators, relevant industries and investors to network in formal and informal contexts. There will be many talks given by business and industry representatives and panel discussions will take place throughout the summit. Innovators can give five minutes pitches (selected from submitted pitch abstract) to a panel of industries and investors to showcase their innovation. This will be followed by a cocktail networking event where innovators, industry representatives and investors can have informal discussions.

Grants and awards
To facilitate delegate attendance, ESTS'18 will offer grants and awards directed to researchers from developing countries, students and early career researchers and female delegates with young children and that require childcare. To apply for a bursary please send your CV and Abstract to alexe.bojovschi@iirnet.org by 1 July 2018.

Magnificent location
